About the role
The Director of Medication is responsible for the clinical leadership and strategic oversight of ADHD medication services across the organisation. This role ensures safe, effective, and evidence-based prescribing, high standards of patient care, and full compliance with regulatory and professional requirements.
As a senior clinical leader, the role shapes medication pathways, supports service growth, and works closely with multidisciplinary, operational, and product teams to deliver high-quality, patient-centred ADHD care at scale.
What you will do
Clinical Leadership & Strategy
Lead the clinical strategy for ADHD medication management, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and national clinical guidance (e.g. NICE).
Act as the senior clinical authority for ADHD pharmacological treatment across the organisation.
Provide expert clinical input into service development, innovation, and scaling of ADHD medication pathways.
Lead and develop the service, ensuring an adequate and competent workforce that can flex to the changing demands of the sector.
Act as a thought leader in ADHD medication service delivery, championing innovative, evidence-based models of care to improve access, quality, and patient outcomes.
Medication Governance & Safety
Own and oversee medication governance frameworks, including prescribing standards, shared care arrangements, monitoring protocols, and review cycles.
Ensure safe initiation, titration, monitoring, and ongoing management of ADHD medications across all age groups served.
Lead oversight of controlled drugs governance, prescribing audits, and risk management.
Regulatory & Compliance
Ensure full compliance with relevant regulatory, professional, and contractual requirements (e.g. CQC, GMC/RPS/RCN standards, MHRA & NICE guidance).
Act as the senior clinical point of contact for regulators and external stakeholders on ADHD medication matters.
Support inspection readiness, audits, and clinical assurance processes.
Service Quality & Outcomes
Drive continuous quality improvement through audit, outcome measurement, and patient feedback.
Monitor clinical outcomes, safety indicators, and service performance related to medication management.
Work in partnership with the Governance team to address clinical incidents, complaints, and complex cases related to ADHD medication.
People Leadership & Capability
Provide leadership, supervision, and clinical guidance to prescribing clinicians and medication-focused teams.
Support training and ongoing competency development in ADHD prescribing.
Foster a strong culture of clinical excellence, accountability, continuous learning, and collaboration.
Support recruitment, development, and retention of high-performing clinical staff.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with Operations, Product, Technology, Governance and Commercial teams to ensure medication pathways are operationally efficient and clinically safe.
Contribute to proposition development and optimisation of ADHD services, ensuring medication models are scalable, compliant, and patient-centred.
Support relationships with pharmacies, suppliers, and shared care partners.

Qualifications and Experience
Registered clinician with independent prescribing rights (e.g. GMC, NMC or GPhC).
Extensive experience in ADHD assessment and medication management.
Strong background in clinical governance, medication safety, and controlled drugs management.
Senior clinical leadership experience within ADHD, neurodevelopmental, or mental health services.
In-depth knowledge of NICE guidance in relation to ADHD pharmacological treatment.
Experience working in private healthcare or mixed NHS/private services.
Understanding of electronic prescribing.
Knowledge of ICB charging and shared Care agreements.
Experience working and leading teams in a remote, fast-growth environment.
Formal training in leadership, quality improvement, or healthcare management.
